Its a well known fact that Sonic was born brown, and that he went so fast that his fur/quills turned blue. Which means in Sonic & co's world that all hedgehogs would be brown and technicolor animals for that species isn't actually the norm. That leaves oddballs like Amy in a state of "Why in the world did you dye your entire body pink?"

Speaking of Amy, she wants to have children with Sonic so despairingly...but doesn't she know that male hedgehogs are known to aggressively kill all and any newborn males?

Lets take a stroll...shall we:

Foxes
Echindas
Rabbits
Cats
Bats

In the Fleetway continuity, maybe. Not anywhere else though.

Speaking of who-eats-who, it always amused me that in the Archie series, Bunnie and Antoine are in a relationship, given that coyotes eat rabbits (there's a really bad joke that could be told here, but I'm not going anywhere near that).

It's also the backstory in the UK Sonic books, which I *think* predate Sonic the Comic. Didn't the game manuals for the Master System game mutter something along those lines as well?

In the games original Japanese canon Sonic has no origin.

He's always been blue.

He's always been fast.

The same applies to every other character. The best example is Knuckles, as he has no explanation anywhere that I know of as to why he is the way he is, and then in Adventure we see that all Echidna in the Sonic universe are like that.

Sonic running so fast that he turns blue is in the American game origin story, too. XD

It's not in the Genesis manual, though.

Actually, it's pretty funny. Play "Find the word 'Mobius'" using just the Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles manuals some time (ie: manuals from the canon Genesis games). I guarantee you'll come empty (and no, the ad for Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on the back doesn't count).

heh Brown Sonic has slightly more realistic quills. interesting. At least when he's brown he's more identifyable as an animal. When I first saw Knuckles I thought he was a dog. I can't remember what I thought Sonic was just before I read his name. Maybe a cat.

I, too, thought Sonic was a cat at first.
Mainly because I knew no english back then and had to ask my father what a hedgehog was.

Also, for many years I thought Knuckles was a bird, because my father thought an "echidna" was an australian bird (probably got it mixed up with the kookaburra or something).
My assumption was further supported by the fact that I interpreted his gliding as flying (in a non-gamebreaking way) and that his head quills looked like feathers to me.

But then again.. I am the same person who thought Shadow was Knuckles upon first seeing him.. >>"
