^ Actually, if you look at the trailer again, Were Sonic is latching onto the wall and is trying to walk across it.

know how this will end. Eggman wakes DEM of the game, tries to control it, loses control, and has to team up with Sonic and co. to stop said DEM. Brand new
verse, same as the first.

Bowser usually gets his butt kicked by the hero which is less humiliating than getting it kicked by either your own creation or some creature you thought you
could control.
The "monster-of-the-day" shtick is getting pretty tiring. What's wrong with having Eggman as the big bad?

That's one of the best things about the Sonic Rush games - Eggman is the final villain, both at the end of Sonic's normal game and the
unlockable 'last' story (he's teamed with Nega there, but still). It always feels good to do battle with a huge super robot. The Advance
titles had big Eggman mechs as final bosses too (bar Advance 3), but it's just cooler (and more fun) in the Rush games. Anyone that
hasn't played these games, go on Youtube and search for videos of the final bosses.

^ Exactly.
What happened to the days when Eggman would get his hands dirty and attack Sonic on his own? He's been the bad guy of the game ever since Sonic 1. Why does he constantly get upstaged by the DEM-of-the-game every fraggin' time? It makes no sense. At least Chaos gave us some insight into the history of the Chaos and Master Emeralds and the relationship between them. Do they think their fans have attention spans so short that they have to recycle the plotline every single game? Never mind, don't answer that.

whaaa? Bowser gets competition and humiliated by people other than Mario alla the time. I don't remember Bowser hiring more powerful villians to thrawart Mario and/co only to get owned by them in the platformers. And that what we were talking about, the differences how each company has treated the major villian in their flagship series' notable genre wasn't it? Looks like it. It seems like Sonic Team is trying too hard to turn Sonic into something epic by regulating Eggman as the number 2 villian or some minor annoyance because ever since Sonic Adventure they feel only god-like monstrosities can be a true threat to Sonic and friends. As mentioned, the handheld games are usually the exception.

I don't see how god-like monsters are qualitatively worse than giant war machines.
EDIT - and... did Eggman ever actually WORK with Mephiles or Iblis, or did he just try to acquire their power? SA2, he got stopped by something Gerald put in motion; he never actually TOUCHED the Biolizard. Heroes, his own creation, Metal Sonic, developed a personality and ousted him. Not quite the same. The only time they've ever actually used the "giant monster betrays Eggman" plot was in SA then.

Gerald's plan would've never went into action if Eggman hadn't decided to use the Eclipse Cannon in a bid for power. If he hadn't stuck the
Chaos Emeralds in, Gerald's doomsday program wouldn't have been activated.
Eggman may not have worked with Mephiles directly, but it was his fault he was released because he broke the scepter he was sealed in. Personally, I'd rather have another Death Egg or another Egg Carrier, instead of another god. What's wrong with having Eggman be a match for Sonic? They've been doing it ever since Sonic 1, so why change it? Sega has a developed a nasty habit of trying to fix what isn't broke. Eggman's nothing but a joke now.

It's not as if the guy never fights anymore. O_o I mean, there he is through most of the zones. I don't really think being the final boss is that vital
to his characterization; especially since he seems pretty damn villainous in what he does to Sonic in this plot set up.

^Until he has to have make a truce with Sonic to help him fight the real big bad because of overestimating its power.
Razor Except that whenever Bowser uses war machines they don't turn against him. He's the one in total control. He is the true big bad. Eggman used to be like this in the console games, but now... Also, even before SH was released, I thought that Metal Sonic had some sort of personality. Not exactly one that would betray Eggman though. Kayla Not to mention even if he was able to obtain the Flames of Disaster from Elise, you think based on past experience with very dangerous power he would have been have been able to control it.? XD |

Bowser is the true big bad up till the point they decide to use him for comic relief. And in Sunshine, he was basically just sitting around while Bowser Jr.
did all the work until Mario busted into his place.
But I'll quit while I'm ahead. |

He's still the big bad even if he is comical in other games. Eggman was and still is comic relief(just look at the shape of his body for crying out loud),
and he's not the major bad guy like he used to be.
Besides, who says you can't be both comic relief and the major evil? Just look at characters such as Kefka, Joker, and many other evil clowns. XD |

More like he alternates in and out of the big bad position while being repeatedly degraded and embarrassed in the process.
I think Eggman has managed to keep significantly more dignity. |

More like he alternates in and out of the big bad position while being repeatedly degraded and embarrassed in the process. See, now it looks like you are still trying to bring in the spin-offs characterization in addition to the platformers when talking about the two villians, when the rest of us were specifically mentioning the platformers. If that the case, then I should mention that Eggman has a fart attack in Sonic Riders. There is no dignity in toilet humor. Anyway all, Kayla, Cyberknux, and anyone else who've complained in the past few posts is that the monster-of-the-game is becoming tired and I don't blame them. Eggman at Death Egg in Sonic 2 was more of a heart-pounding moment than any of the final bosses in any 3D Sonic I've played. |
