I just realized what the human designs remind me of, and that's the Man of the Year short that was in Sonic Jam. And that's just perfect with me.

Am I the only one who SERIOUSLY dislikes the Night levels (I wish there was a lockon or something. Once you see the bees, you'll feel my pain.)? Or should
I just change controller settings so I don't have burning spikes of pain in my arms after two fights? I'm up to the Eggman level.

I find the night levels tolerable, as with the fighting mechanics easy. for the bees and other annoying enemies that simply hover a few inches off the ground.
I would use the Were-Claw to stun them or spam the left-then all right hand combo (the finisher that ends with the clap attack)to stun them and throw them into
other enemies. I'm no where near where you are but blocking doesn't seem much needed to me yet.

I mean, I'm not a big fan of the Rush gameplay as it is, but it still had a chance of being pretty good... then I noticed how Sonic was actually CONTROLLING in some of the latest videos. That is, his turns are pathetic, gravity is so high so as to make it look like Sonic's magnetically attracted to the ground, and in the free-roaming segment he seems to be practically unrestrained, making fine movements nearly impossible. The sad thing is, though, a "main-series" game being "like it or hate it" is a step up from 2K6 and Shadow, in that you'd have to be blissfully ignorant of any concept of a good game, ever to even REMOTELY like those two, whereas here it sounds like it's marginally enjoyable to relatively sane people.

The short film Night of the Werehog is out. Not bad. Pretty entertaining. The fight between Were Sonic and Ghost Bull was awesome.

Hi guys, got the game! (360 version). The following is my true opinion of Sonic Unleashed. I've played the majority of Sonic's crap, and I've
grew up with him, so I'm not going to bring a Shadow the Hedgehog / Sonic 06 lover perspective into this, because I still don't see how it's
possible to even remotely enjoy anything in those games:
The game starts off on an amazing cinematic start -- which some of you have seen from leakages and personal experience. The first playable Sonic level is awesome -- Sonic's little tutorial level. The first time playing, I %*%*@%% LOVE THE SENSE OF SPEED. Sonic Team is not allowed to ever make a Sonic game that is slower than this. I loved not falling off retarded pitfalls, I loved the quick step stuff, and it's just epic. I wanted more. The next was another Sonic level. Don't remember the crazy name of it, all these levels have crazy names I can't remember. I miss names like "Green Hill Zone" but whatever. I died once from a pitfall, but it wasn't from stupid level design. I felt like I deserved it for not being observant. I had a blast at that level, and using the boost is just a thrill ride. I didn't feel like the game was playing itself, I felt like I was riding along with Sonic. I didn't have any "slippage" platforming problems like some people mentioned -- everything seems perfect. Next level ... Werehog. I was dreading this as the game developed, and here's my official opinion: JESUS CHRIST WHYYYYY. It sucks ass, it's repetitive, it's boring, and currently I have a headache. However, the werehog stage didn't make the headache, it only helped lead into it. The stupid Tails Sky Chase crap is what's giving me the headache. Oh my god. Why can't they just give us controls and let us shoot? Why is it a QTE button pressing orgy? I failed, and I believe it started me back to the very beginning. I'm not sure if it truly did or not because I put it on pause, and I need to let my head rest from this torture. So far, if this game was all Sonic, I'd love it! But, the Werehog, and this Tornado Flying crap is a huge reason on why it's getting Cs, Ds, etc. all across the board. I don't expect to see any As for this game, I really don't see how after playing it. Don't lose hope on Sonic though, or on the series ... let's see how much Sonic Team is listening, and let's see how much SONIC we'll get next game. Until then, damn this half false hype to hell, and I want to play more Sonic levels without going through all this stress. Sorry for the angry tone, but it was totally called for.

Animated shorts instead of games? That Night of the Werehog short was the best thing to come out of this franchise in ages. It's only eleven minutes and
kicked the arse out of both Final Fantasy movies that's for sure.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS (Or: "How I learned to quit worrying, and love the Hedgehog.")
I've just gotten through the first two stages, and it's incredible! The in-game graphics are close to Pixar quality. I don't mind walking around the hub world because the visuals are so beautiful. The Werehog controls much better on this version than the PS2 port. Sonic doesn't control poorly at all in the hub worlds. He only gets to jogging speed at worst. Sega was smart enough to slow him down at these parts. During the speed stages, there are tons of branching and hidden paths to find, so you can go for a better score or unlock collectibles. It's worth going back again and again for these reasons, if not also the great gameplay. Speaking of which... The Werehog is twice as fun in this game than he is on PS2! No stupid double-tapping to run, just hold either LT or RT. (Which begs the question why they didn't just map the same controls from the 360 version over to PS2?) Another, very important thing that PS2 did not have was the ability to do is both grab enemies and do QTE with stunned enemies that usually result in a funny animation. The Werehog gamnplay is no disaster by any means. Stupid critics just can't get over the fact that he turns into a Werehog. In fact, the Werehog gameplay is almost as fun as Sonic's! It gives you a chance to slow down and enjoy the view, while admiring the scenery and enjoy some more classic (if not normally traditional to Sonic) platforming gameplay. The were hog's platforming sections a a mix of Mario, and a more kid friendly Tomb Raider. With grabbing ledges and poles. Tails Tornado min-game is pretty cool. I'd rather have the Dreamcast style, but it's still neat. It's kind like a longer QTE in which you have to press the right button "X, Y, B, or A" before a missile hit your plane. Each missile coming quickly at you has the button command on it. Then, you battle Eggman's ship. It's a faster version, but this time his hatch opens up occasionally, and you have to rapidly tap a certain button to help damage it. I've only really done three stages so far but, the graphics, music and gameplay are all spot on. If I had to score it just now, I'd give it a 9. (Definitely a 10 on graphics)Forget the Cycle, this IS Sonic's return to form! This game makes the PS2 version look like crap. I gotta go now. I'm in the streets of Spagonia, and Sonic's lying down, looking all bored and starting to nod off. UPDATE: Got to Holoska. Still excellent. Some might be put off by all the talking to villagers you have to do. |

^Your post and Deus's are the complete opposite of each other except for the one constant that the Sonic stages are good. Mixed-Werehog impressions aside, while it may not exactly be worth to own, personally, it might be worth a rent sometime in the future for curiousity sake. |

Ironically, it sounds like the 360 version is the one to go for (well, PS3 too if that's how you swing), despite how everyone was thinking the Wii version
would be the better one, just for having Dimps on board.

True, though I have a feeling the Wii version will less likely be ignored compared to the other versions, and ensuring it to sell the best anyway.*shrugs* Weren't we supposed to be getting a demo this week, and why haven't other places reviewed this title(specially the HD versions)? I did hear that the HD versions had some bouts of mandatory medal collecting in stages and hubs that allows you to progress the game and Sonic lacks all of his skills in the beginning compared to the SD versions. I wonder if Yahtzee will bother to review this. |
