Everybody in Sonic games fight with raw power. The way Sonic and Shadow fight is nothing but brawn against brawn it seems. Kind of like that ridiculous Mew vs Mewtwo fight in the first Pokemon movie. They just bounced off each other in psychic balls most of the time, how boring was that? Most characters in the Sonic franchise rely on brute force to win.
There are ways to beat shear brawn without resorting to brawn yourself. There are martial arts which train people to be able to bring down a rather strong person by turning their strength against them. You don't need to be fast yourself to beat a supersonic rodent, there are all kinds of neat tricks you can try. Of course you'll have to use a little bit of 'willing suspension of disbelief' here. Sonic is always portrayed as super human to the point he could be considered just flat out un killable. This annoys me.
You be the Doctor, do you have ways you can bring down Sonic and his friends with little effort?
Eggman always uses bullets but I think its obvious by now that Sonic can dodge almost any bullet. So why not lasers instead?
Another related defense is reactive armor, these are designed to deal with Shaped charges by counteracting with another explosion, so adapt it to deal with
Hedgehogs, Sonic rushes at the Tank, reactive armor explodes in his face.
And then of course there is Sticky Foam. I'm not sure if this has been tried before. But ....well remember that scene from The Incredibles? The stuff
expands when it hits the air and its impossible to scrape off. One well placed hit could effectively slow Sonic down giving you time to pummel him with more of
the stuff until he's completely covered. Especially if you can eject it with enough force to knock him back.
